Opportunities

The Psychiatry AI Collaboration welcomes collaboration from individuals and institutions.

For Clinicians & Researchers

Partner with us to pilot innovative AI tools, enhance patient care, and contribute to leading-edge research. Bring project ideas for input from the Collaboration.

For Industry Partners & Donors

Support cutting-edge mental health research and infrastructure, helping transform mental healthcare delivery.

For Undergraduate Students

The Department of Psychiatry offers a range of hands-on research and learning opportunities for students interested in the intersection of data science, neuroscience, and mental health research.

Participants may join our teams as core staff, co-op students, or through undergraduate courses, including capstones and directed studies. We also welcome volunteers who are eager to gain experience contributing to ongoing academic projects.

What Students Will Do

Depending on your role, you may:

  • Contribute to software development, data analysis, or data annotation in support of active research projects.
  • Collaborate with graduate students and research staff working on cutting-edge projects in neuroscience and psychiatry.
  • Gain exposure to the process of preparing data and participating in publications that arise from significant research efforts resulting from the production of key research code and/or figures.
Eligibility and Expectations
  • All participants take part in a data on-boarding and off-boarding process to ensure research integrity and compliance.
  • Volunteers must be enrolled at UBC and complete any required ethics and departmental screening (unless participating through a formal course such as a capstone or directed studies).
  • Typical commitments for capstone or directed studies students are approximately 8 hours per week over a 4-month term.

These experiences provide valuable training in data-driven research and foster collaboration between computer science, neuroscience, and clinical psychiatry — preparing students for future work in both academic and applied settings.  Please contact us by email with your transcript and CV if you are interested in a training experience.
